Age, weight fluctuations, pregnancies, and hormonal changes can cause the thighs to look heavy and saggy.  The thighs are especially an area of concern for patients who have undergone weight loss surgery including gastric bypass and gastric banding procedures.  In some cases, fat deposition around the thighs can be resolved by liposuction alone.  However, if there is loose and saggy skin as well as fat around this area, a thigh lift may be the answer.  In a thigh lift, an incision is made in the inner portion of the upper thighs starting in the groin crease and back towards the buttock crease.  Also, depending on the amount of excess skin and fat, an extra incision may be required along the length of the inner thighs down towards the knee area.  In some cases, both liposuction and a thigh lift may be performed together to create a much narrower appearance to the thighs.

A thigh lift takes between 2-3 hours and can be performed at an outpatient surgery center with recovery in an overnight facility.  Patients can be back to work as early as 10 days.
